Swatch watches have pulled one of the best publicity stunts as their latest release: Omega x Swatch Moonwatch collection is going wild. The Omega x Swatch Moonwatch is an exceptional business move from Swatch - one of the major players in Swiss watchmaking. As expected, wristwatch collectors and speculators have gone on a hunting frenzy, trying to lay their hands on the new collection.

This brilliant move by the Swatch group is one with a lot of hype that'll take them back to when Swatch had all the hype on the market.

Omega had to lend Swatch one of their iconic designs and let them produce it in a cheaper plastic format with different colors. The design is excellent and is pretty identical to the Omega Speedmaster, with the difference being the material. Instead of stainless steel, Swatch made use of bioceramic.

The wristwatch is light because of the material used in making it; the back cover doesn't come off except for a battery cover, which allows users to change batteries when needed. The battery cover is how the brand differentiates the collections; it has a painting of the planet that each collection represents.

Here is a list of Omega x Swatch Moonswatch

The First Bioceramic Swatch

Swatch introduced its first-ever BIOCERAMIC Swatch - BIG BOLD - made from a material that's a mix of ceramic and bio-sourced plastic in 2021.

The Bioceramic Swatch innovation comes after the manufacturer launched its bio-sourced Swatch in September 2020.

The material mix depicts a luxury timepiece that is much more durable, sturdy, and less fragile, with a soft, powdery touch that feels extra smooth and refined on the wrist.

The first Bioceramic Swatch had a 47mm diameter case and came in five colors - classic black and white, grey, sky-blue, and light pink.

The watch has a transparent face which the brand tagged "a deliberate choice" because it reveals the fine mechanical movement of the timepiece while showing off the sharp, precise edges of the BIOCERAMIC material.

While the bracelet, glass, and loops are made from bio-sourced plastic, they are 100% natural and contain no chemicals. It is made of a ceramic material that can keep your skin cool for hours, even when the outside temperature reaches over 53°C. It is a product to help those constantly exposed to heat.

Bioceramic Swatch x NASA

The Bioceramic Swatch x NASA collection acknowledges the innovation of NASA with its own space-age bioceramic case material. The agency's astronauts' uniforms inspired three of the five watches in the space collection. There is a perfect match between the colors of the suits with the soft-touch bioceramic that is made primarily of ceramics and a third of bio-sourced plastic derived from castor oil.

The 47mm Big Bold Chrono Extravehicular is the second collection of the bioceramic NASA and reflects NASA's Advanced Crew Escape Suit, which astronauts wear on their ascent into space; because of its bright orange hue, it is referred to as the pumpkin suit.

Take me to the moon "New Gent," which has a transparent case, and Space Race "Gent," having a mirror-effect silver-colored dial, are the final two watches in the collection. Swatch x NASA collection dropped the space collection on the 3rd of June, 2021.

Swatch x Omega Speedmaster

Speedmaster watches are one of the most iconic and famous watches globally. They have a rich history, with many milestones and achievements.

The first Speedmaster was introduced in 1957 as a clock for race car drivers. The manufacturers gave it the name "Speedmaster" because it had "Speed" in its name, and it also had a stopwatch function that could measure up to 1/10th of a second.

The first edition came with an 18-karat gold case, black dial, and luminous hands. In 1965, Omega released their Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch - NASA's choice for space exploration, and this watch is still being used by astronauts today!

The Omega x Swatch Speedmaster Moonwatch collection collaborates with Omega and Swatch. The collection is designed to celebrate the 50th anniversary of both brands, and the collection has eleven models.

The Omega x Swatch Moonwatch replaces the typical Omega Speedmaster's 45mm stainless steel case back with a bioceramic one. Users can change their Moonswatch collection band to any watch band they like, unlike standard Swatch or Bioceramic Swatch x NASA.

Is Omega x Swatch Moonswatch worth the hype?

The Omega x Swatch Moonswatch is worth every hype it has gotten since its launch because this is Swatch giving out a costly Omega watch for a low price. So if you have always wanted to own an Omega Speedmaster, you should get the Omega x Swatch Moonswatch.

The watch is gorgeous, and it is pretty comfortable when worn on the wrist when it comes purely to looks.

Conclusion

The Omega x Swatch Moonswatch is a stunning piece that will be a great addition to your wristwatch collection if you do not have any high expectations. Only one thing you need to reconsider is if you are expecting a luxury watch, this is probably not your cup of tea. Omega x Swatch Moonswatch has standard 20mm watch lug width, which means finding a replacement watch band in the market is easy. Can you still wait to get your Moonswatch to explore the possibilities?
