Casio's 35th Anniversary Full Metal G-SHOCK GMWB5000D-1

There are many reasons why G-Shock watches ares able to hold its place in the watch community for nearly four decades. Known for its durability, affordable, and certainly its multi-task purpose functional watch. The very first G-Shock , DW-5000C, was initially released back in April 1983, by Casio’s Chief engineer of Research and Development, Kikuo Ibe.

In Ibe’s theory, every G-Shock had to ensure a minimum of 10-year battery life, 10-bar water resistance and 10-meter dropping shock resistance, which was later known as the “Triple 10 requirements”.

To commemorate the success for G-Shock over the years, Casio introduced the legendary resin-cased design; GMWB5000D, a full metal G-Shock to celebrates its 35th anniversary at Baselworld2018.

The GMWB5000D G-Shock took the crowd at Baselworld by surprise when it was first introduced since everyone expected the same old black urethane rubber. The GMWB5000D G-Shock took the crowd at Baselworld by surprise when it was first introduced since everyone expected the same old black urethane rubber which is common used on most G-Shock models.

The measurements for the GMWB5000D are somewhat similar to its predecessors, but with a few differences of course. Sitting at 49.3mm by 43.2mm, which is the common standards size for G-Shock standard. It sits well on an average wrist size due to a 13mm case thickness and offers a decent mount of wrist presence.

As shocking as this maybe, you definitely feel the strong presence for the GMWB5000D G-Shock as soon as you put it on. For me, who wears the SBDX013 , emperor darth tuna on a daily basis, the GMWB5000D, feels much heavier than the SBDX013 model, even though its only weighs 10 more grams.

The GMWB5000D runs on a solar-powered quartz movement with bluetooth and atomic timekeeping that drives the time and functions just like the rest of the Casio G-Shock 5000 Series. Furthermore, if you sync the time piece the G-Shock app, the time should instantly sync based on an atomic time signal.

All in all, I think Casio did an amazing job with the Casio G-Shock GMWB5000 Full Metal watch. As an anniversary limited edition model watch, its nice to see the changes from the old black urethane rubber look, to an all out full metal body with modern technological functionality, and still able to keep a vintage classic look to it.
